Austin tubing trips is now open for public tours
Due to Covid-19, the state of Texas had a moratorium on public-style tours, so the industry had to adapt. Fortunately, for all of the local touring agencies, the leadership in Texas decided to lift the moratorium and once again open up public tours. This includes tube rides down the San Marcos River, winery tours, and brewery tours.
This is a huge deal for the people of Austin, Texas, and surrounding cities. These are people who enjoy the outdoors and being with their friends. Tubing is definitely a huge part of the summer lifestyle in Austin, with thousands of people flocking to the San Marcos River for a leisurely float ride.
Tour itself includes everything but the alcohol for your party, however, thanks to specially designed cooler tubes you have a place to put your beverages and food. Just one note, do not attempt to bring any glass bottles or Styrofoam. Public tours differ from private type tours, in that you do not get picked up from home.
Instead, there is a designated pick-up spot where everything going on the tubing tour for that time and date boards a bus. Since the groups will be larger than the private type tour, you and your party will be loaded onto executive luxury motor coaches. All the vehicles are permitted to allow for alcohol to be consumed as it moves. That means you and your party can get the fun started before you even get to the river.
With Apexcusions, a gathering spot somewhere in downtown Austin will be designated and times will be provided at the time you book your tour. Your party will be responsible to arrive at the pickup spot on the prescribed day and time.
After booking your tubing trip you will want to be sure that you are well prepared for the 5.5-hour ride down the San Marcos River. Some of the things that you will want to be sure that bring with you. A hat or sun visor of some type to protect your head and face from the sun. Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreens (the sun reflecting off the water is very deceiving. You want to have sunglasses and footwear (sneakers or sandals will do the trick).
Even if you plan to consume adult beverages during the tour, you want to be sure to remember to bring drinking water to keep hydrated. The water can easily be kept in the coolers provided by Apexcursions as part of the package.
If you are looking for an alternative, you can also book a public winery or brewery tour. The city of Austin is situated very near the Texas Wine Country (also part of the Texas Hill Country). There are dozens of vineyards that open up their wineries to the public for wine tasting tours. For a fee, you and your party can book a tour that usually consists of several different wineries. Just like the tubing tours, your transportation to and from a designated pickup spot is included and you are also able to consume alcohol inside the vehicles.
