How to Pick the Best Day of the Week for Your Tubing Trip

Austin, Texas has become very well-known for its outdoor activities and one of the most popular is tubing on the river. With its proximity to the San Marcos River, you can get there in less than 45 minutes. That means you and your party can make plans in the morning and be on the water in less than an hour.

The San Marcos River is a picturesque location just outside of Austin and the float trip is approximately 3.5 hours on the water. You and your party board the oversized rubber tubes as a group. No matter what size your group is, you will all launch together in groups and there is a special tube that is designed to hold a cooler with your group’s food and beverages.

Since tubing is quite popular you can imagine that in a city the size of Austin, there is going to be good days and bad days to plan your tubing trip. While the river is pretty large, the likelihood that it might be a bit crowded when you are wanting to go is pretty high. Picking the wrong day may hurt your experience. Fortunately, the hours of operation are from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm, most of the days of the year (check the season schedule, temporary restrictions, and COVID-19 limitations).

If you are looking to plan a tubing trip during the week, avoid Fridays, stick with early morning Monday through Thursday. If you and your party are more the weekend warrior-type, consider early morning on Sunday. Most of the time you will be able to enjoy clear skies and mild temperatures.

Good thing that there are local transportation companies that offer complete packages for day trips to the San Marcos River and inner-tubing rides down the river. These packages are designed for groups large and small, from 4 people up to large groups of more than 100. We have both private and public trips and each includes luxury transportation to and from the river tubing facility.

Depending on the size of your group and the type of transportation you are wanting, there are luxury SUVs, travel vans, Party Bus, and executive motorcoaches (designed for the larger groups). The private tours include pick up from each of your party’s residences and drop off after the trip is completed. The public tour has a designated pick-up spot and you are your party is responsible to get to the pickup spot on time and arrange your ride back home from the drop-off location.
